An International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is required for every player aged 10 years or older, who are playing football in Australia for the first time, is not an Australian citizen, or whose last registration was overseas. This is a FIFA requirement to ensure players are not under contract or suspended, and is applicable even if the player is an Australian citizen or if they have been registered in Australia previously. 


A common question that is asked by participants to our ITC team is whether there are exceptions allowing participants to bypass the ITC application process in order to register. 


The answer to this question is No, there are no exceptions to participants being exempt from an ITC. 


FIFA's regulation clearly states: 


The FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (FIFA Regulations) require all players to obtain an ITC where the immediately preceding registration was with a national association other than the national association in which the player is registering.


At Football Australia, we understand the ITC process can cause inconvenience for both participants and their prospective club, however our ITC team are dedicated to ensure we are able to have an application completed as quickly as possible, therefore allowing a participant to play football within Australia.  


Quick notes: 


  • ITCs are requested during the registration process
  • ITCs may take up to 30 days* from the date Football Australia has submitted the players request to the opposite National Association
  • A provisional ITC will be provided to a player after 7 days if the corresponding federation fails to respond
  • ITC for amateur adults are for participants 18 and over 
  • ITC for minor participants are for participants 10-18 
  • ITC applications are not required for players under 10
